Dear Muslim and refugee communities…

Dear Muslim and any refugee communities currently being targeted. Please know that although there may be a few idiots who assume you are all terrorists because of one persons actions, the majority of us do not and we support you.

I apologize on behalf of any idiots who have made you feel otherwise. The truth is, they are the ones that don’t belong in Canada. You are no more responsible for last nights actions then I am for another white person killing/hurting someone. I’m sorry that you’re going through this.

ANOTHER GREAT POST:  C'mon Edmonton! Food and hospitality workers appreciate manners too!

Love,
one edmontonion who wishes you could all feel safe

  1. May I remind you of the Syrian Muslim refugee who sexually touched FIVE young women I WEM water park?

    • May I remind you of a White Canadian who killed a dad, a baby and a grandmother 2 years ago in crowsnest pass? Or a dad and his girlfriend who killed his baby boy and left him by a church? That must make every white person/Canadian a murderer, correct?

    • May I remind you of the Australian Psychiatrist who was charged with 8 counts of child pornography-related charges after filming a young boy urinating at West Edmonton Mall earlier this year? Do you feel the same vitriol toward him (and ultimately all Asians) as the result of his actions? What exactly is your point in bringing this up?

I suggest you do your homework on ISIS. ISIS is to Islam what the KKK is to Christianity. Unless you are comfortable condemning an entire Christian religion (and every race of person who follows it) as a result of the actions of an extreme sect, then you might want to rethink your stance in this case as well.

  3. Terrorism discriminates not between your race, ethnicity or religion. The only target of terrorism is everyone, no exclusions. Yesterday it was in our lovely city Edmonton. Before that it was in London, Paris and Myanmar. Terrorism will grow bigger and stronger when we get into useless discussions. Instead, let us go into action by putting hands together to show those who enjoy harm on others that our unity as humans will exclude any act of terrorism. May Allah protect our country and our fellow Canadian brothers and sisters and every human around the globe.

      Ok there bud.

    • I think we all know we have an issue, and people like you are part of the issue. It would be nice if that’s the world that we live in. Innocent people don’t have to fear because they’re innocent. However people are hurting innocent people simply because of their race. They’re living in fear because some people automatically assume they are terrorists because of their faith or where they were born. That’s the issue.

      [0]
    • Robbie Wood Robbie Wood says:

This is my third reference….I’m hoping you people get it through to your heads it is not okay to refer to someone by the colour of their skin. That because I am so called white I should suck it up perhaps? That it is no big effin deal? But snowflake and Ali Snack Bar is? Who are the ones who are misguided here? • You cannot hold the actions of one lone idiot against the majority. That would be like hating every American because their president is a moron. Or hating every North Korean because their president is psychotic. Every country and every culture has done something truly horrible at one point in time or another. You cannot hold the actions of one or a few against the many. I feel ashamed by some of the horrible posts I have been seeing on many different social media sites. This man acted alone. He’s supposedly an Isis sympathizer. What he did was horrible and wrong. But blaming an entire culture because of one bad Apple? Come on people wake up. Nor is it our prime minister’s fault. This man was here before he even got into office. Do your research. Understand the full story before you open your mouths and start spewing half truths and racist remarks. This is not the Canada I know and love. This is not the Edmonton we all love either.

    • Robbie Wood I have met you and you are not from this country. You will notice that one of the people who responded to your hate filled post demands that we “get these fuckin immigrants off our soil..nothing but fuckin freeloaders”
Do you see how this type of speech devolves so quickly into us and them. According to your own supporter you are them not us.
This is dangerous and not at all who we are as Canadians. It falls right into the terrorist agenda and makes it easier to radicalize youth.

    • Mike Christy Mike Christy says:

      Here is what we know:

      1) The driver of the U Haul is a known Muslim extremist and Isis sympathizer

      2) He was currently undergoing immigration while hate speaking (specifics were not released)

      2) He had an Isis flag with him in the U Haul

      What does this tell us?

I’d say it at least says that our immigration policy is severely flawed and we are not doing enough about it.

      So what can we do?

I’d say at least close our borders to immigrants until we find a way to properly screen them.

What I will say is that I’m sick of bringing people into our country and having them refusing to integrate. I have zero problems helping those in need, but we have to think about our home first.

I am a first generation Canadian, my family fled from oppression just like the majority of immigrants here.

What happened is a tragedy and an act of terrorism. Will I let this affect how I live? Of course not, but it is a sign that we need to open our eyes.

I fully agree with Robbie Wood, there is a major problem here and we the people need to do something about it. It is obvious that our so-called leaders are not capable.

I am not pointing fingers at a specific race, but a very precise group.

Don’t be afraid if you’re a rational human being, I see no differences based on race, culture, background, etc.

      [0]
    • Is it? So it makes no difference to you if someone refers to the colour of their skin? Calls them white? So if others start saying the person is brown, black, red skin or yellow..that is ok too? You think that is educated and sweet too? Only if it fits your agenda perhaps…

Actaully I’d prefer to be call Caucasian because thats what I am I’m not white. So yes even though I support the op whole heartedly using colour as description is not educated.

    • Ayah Hamade Ayah Hamade says:

Oh I’m soooo sorry! Hung up on white or caucasian? So sorry to offend you with a minor detail. I’ll remember to tell the next “caucasian” woman or man who tell me to go back to my country that despite the scarf on my head I was actually born and raised here. I’d take being called brown anyday over walking through a grocery store with my children being called a terrorist! #lookatthebiggerpicture

      [0]
    • Lee Ann Lee Ann says:

When the government has census with the are you white? Yes that fucking offends me I was raised to be non racist. Canadian raised to accept all, we as “white people” can’t stand up for our own without being racist. I am not white and yes I will get hung up on it thanks! And I am truly sorry that you have to experience that but again I wouldnt call you brown or an extremist for your head scarf. We have to support all and that starts with also respecting our “white” neighbours.
Again I’m sorry your bullied for your headscarf but thats all they are bullies. Calling people by colour is also bullying.

      [0]
    • Ayah Hamade Ayah Hamade says:

Lee Ann you don’t need to apologize for someones calling me names. Its a little more harsher than bullying but either way I would never expect an apology. Just as I shouldnt have to apologize for a disgusting coward who claims to be Muslim. We do need to unite and focus on more important issues. I guess we are our own judge on whats offensive or not. I really didn’t realize being called white was offensive. My Caucasian best friend of 20+ years never mentioned it.

      [0]
    • Lee Ann Lee Ann says:

Maybe because we’re scared to stand up for ourselves for one. And two some people just take it and don’t care or don’t acknowledge that its actually offensive. Just like when men cat call women, were to scared to stand up and don’t even realize its inappropriate because we’re desensitized to it.

      [0]
    • Quite frankly you are all making strong points for COLOR does not matter humanity does

      [0]
    • Ayah Hamade I also had no idea being called white was offensive. I’m white…LoL….Can’t go around saying I’m German, Ukrainian, Polish, Norwegian, Danish, and little bit Cree all the time. That’s be freaking exhausting…Haha. Oy! So I suppose I’ll have to start putting the word Caucasian in my vocab because other whities are offended that they are being called white. They ARE white…Not all blacks are African American either….Not all browns are East Indian….Oy with the sensitivity…Sorry if I’ve offended… The Anonymous post was very nice.

  23. …Really? This is the conversation?
Imagine for a second that after the violent act in Charlottesville, we started a #notallwhitepeople hashtag and moved on with our day. Don’t you think we would have missed an opportunity to look at how it came to it that some asshole felt perfectly justified in mowing someone down? Maybe to scrutinize the biases that we confront (and perhaps inadvertantly have)? Maybe to think about what we can do to be an ally to other groups? To come together.
Yes, there are complete idiots out there that are going to judge a large group of people by the behavior of a few. Always will be. But while there are still people under care in hospitals, can we talk about something else?
Can we talk about how this guy was known to have treasonous beliefs and was still here? Why were the police not able to do anything? How are we working with communities of new and potential Canadians that come from countries that don’t value freedom?
And how can we come together to stop this?

    [0]
    • Lee Ann Lee Ann says:

      What’s a white person?

      [0]
    • As a white person, I’ve been targeted exactly zero times when a fellow white person has committed a heinous act anywhere in the world. I wish I could say the same for my brown friends.

      [0]
    • Of course any sane person knows that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live peacefully. But this is hijacking an important conversation about how our immigration system is broken, and it puts everyone at risk whether you are new, naturalized or native. This guy was on terrorist watch, and on track to citizenry. At the same time. How does that make any sense? If we have no platform to discuss this (without being immediately labeled and dismissed) nothing will ever change. People who have traveled 1000’s of miles away from their homes under horrific circumstances will not find the haven we promised them if we can’t do more to keep our country safe.

      [0]
    • How is it hijacking anything? If brown people are harassed in Toronto after events like these, which is supposed to be the most diverse city in the world, they’re most certainly being treated worse in Edmonton. You can have a conversation about anything you want and still acknowledge that you don’t group all brown people or Muslims together. There has never been a #notallwhitepeople hashtag because literally everyone knows that, not just “any sane person.” It’s unfortunate that it needs to be said at all, but it clearly does, and it’s also an important conversation for anyone who’s being unfairly targeted because of another’s actions.

      [0]
    • There is quite literally a #notallwhitepeople hashtag. If you’re interested, google “white people” for a full breakdown of how they’re the worst. What I am saying is, while there are people in the hospital, can we please turn our attention to what we need to do to prevent a re-occurrence? Because what I find is that the only discussion that logical people are allowed to have is the one the Op is commenting on. That’s where the convo always must begin and end, unless you want people to completely misunderstand your intent.

      [0]
    • Okay, my bad. Of course that hashtag exists because white people are ridiculous. My point was simply that it’s unnecessary as white people aren’t ever targeted or grouped together when another white person does something awful. Logical people can have any discussion they want. Whether anyone misinterprets your intent is not really your problem, but that doesn’t mean that your conversation is the only important one, just as this one isn’t either.

      [0]
    • I mean, do you not see the irony in hijacking a thread to complain that it’s hijacking? You can start your own thread about anything you want. You don’t have to worry about feeling unsafe because of the colour of your skin, so this post might not matter to you, but that doesn’t mean it’s not important for others.

      [0]
    • Nope. No I don’t see the irony. Because there is no other conversation besides this one that I’m commenting on. Regardless of how crucial the topic. If I opined on my own thread, the only people that would join in are the people that believe that no immigration is the only policy worth having. I don’t want to engage with them, because I don’t agree with them. The rest of the people that I would want to engage with want to go from #thoughtsandprayers, to #standinunity, and shake the dust off their hands like something was accomplished that day. We are at war with ISIS (in whatever capacity). Any show of support for them should be seen as treason – then maybe the next attack could perhaps be avoided – making people of every skin color perhaps feel more safe.

      [0]
    • I’m not saying that people should not stand up and announce that they are allies. I’m saying that we need to urgently talk about what has to change to make sure this doesn’t happen again. And no one (rationally) does that.

      [0]

  30. Seriously, if you really are against hate then stop calling caucasion people “white”. I am offended by that!

    [0]
  31. Well said OP.. I refuse to judge a whole group over some bad apples… I mean shit, there are enough Caucasians in jails who have murdered, raped, assaulted, etc… And KKK may not be as big of an issue as it once was, but it doesn’t make them any better.. and they were white..
Those who judge based on media’s bigoted views are being turned sour. I’ve known and worked with different races and religions, and honestly, there have been more of my own kind that I’ve found rude, ignorant, and cruel..
We are all human, and bad apples will be found in EVERY group..

    [0]
    • I usually agree on what you say but you’re so far off on this this has nothing to do with different nationalities black white yellow red it doesn’t matter nothing wrong with them it’s Muslim you could be a white Muslim a brown red and a green Muslim all Muslims are filled with hate and their Bible is made to kill the infidel to kill their own women rape the wrong women molest children it’s a sick evil perverse religion it’s not a race a thousand different colors of people could be a Muslim

      [0]
    • I’ve known Muslims, and the ones I knew were all about peace.. It’s like good and bad Christians.. Some are extreme “KKK”, and some are good people..
There are definitely bad in all categories, regardless how you want them grouped together.. I just personally feel bad for those who make assumptions towards the people who really are here for peace and freedom of fear.. I personally wish that ANY who are caught doing any kind of wrong would simply get sent back, so those here for the right reasons can live and feel accepted here.. 🙁

  50. Exactly to blame an entire group of people because of one man’s actions is taking the blame away from the person who deserves it. Also let’s not forget the vast majority of the refugees that came to Canada are also victims of terrorism.

Also we seem to be quick to forget that many terrorists are white, “Christians”. Such as white supremacist neo nazi groups.

I can only guess how difficult it must be for anyone who comes to this great country …… Weather you came here 100 years ago or just 1 year ago….sad but its always been this way….Weather you are Japanese Russian Italian Greek from England or Scotland … Black or White … when people don’t understand your culture … that always seems to gives others… the right to critasice what they don’t know… We have been doing this for many years…. doesn’t matter if its religion or Country from where you came.. My Heart goes out to all that just want a better life….God Bless
