Fast Lane doesn’t exist

I’ve seen a lot of confusion lately about this so I thought I’d clear it up for you guys 🙂

There is no such thing as a fast lane on the highway. It is called a PASSING lane. I’ve seen a lot of people who seem to think that if you are going 110 or less that you are not allowed to use that lane. That is incorrect, if you are using the lane to pass then you have just as much right to use it as anybody else.

For example – if I am driving along in the right lane doing 110 and I come up behind somebody who is doing 105 and I use the left lane to get around them then I am using the passing lane for its intended purpose. There is no rule stating you have to be speeding in the left lane. Sure you’ll sometimes piss of somebody who’s speeding but as long as you move back over after you are done passing then I really don’t see the issue. They can wait till you’re done passing.

ANOTHER GREAT POST:  Thank you

I drive the speed limit but still encounter people driving slower than me that I want to pass. So am I supposed to just sit behind that person because I’m not allowed to use the left lane? No screw that, I’m going to use the PASSING lane to PASS. As long as the I move back over when they are done you really have no place to get angry with me.

  1. I’m taking issue with the people going 10 under unnecessarily in the left lane with no one ahead of them but someone beside them, making it impossible to pass either of them.

You’re just a jerk that needs to stop driving.

  3. I don’t care what lane you are in. Just get out of my way. The speed limit is for pussies.

  7. Also the issue is people signalling over to the passing lane and cutting off the person coming at you at a high velocity while you’re still moving slowly. You want to pass the slow vehicle in front of you no problem, fine, but don’t cut someone off and then move at a snails pace, since you’re going slower you can wait 3.2 seconds for the faster vehicle to pass you, then go.

I think it’s just courtesy unless there is a sign that specifically says keep right except to pass .. the passing lane isn’t an invitation to exceed the speed limit – it’s just a lane to keep traffic moving. If you’re not going the speed limit and you choose to drive in the passing lane you CAN get a ticket for impeding traffic. (Not that it ever happens ). And you CAN get a ticket for going over the speed limit in a passing lane.

  9. You are NOT to exceed the speed limit when passing. If you do, you are SPEEDING and can be ticketed.

    • Oh please, don’t be ridiculous!
If cop see you pass doing 5-10km/h over the limit, then back in your lane to go under the speed limit YOU WILL BE FINE, no cop will bother…. unless of course there is photo radar. JUST LOOK AROUND.

    • I beg to differ . I was behind an unmarked car once . He was just under the speed limit . If I passed him I would have had to do over the speed limit to pass him , and guess what , he would have given me a ticket

    • Sorry Karolina Bienias that is in the rules of the road! Basically you can pass, but cannot exceed the posted limit.

    • Karolina Bienias, unless they do. OP is correct. It may not be enforced, but that doesn’t make it legal.

  10. I was behind a guy doing 90 in a 110 in the left lane. No exits on the left. No reason to be there. That traps people.

  11. Look at the signs on QE 2
They say….keep right except to pass
So either pass or stay in right lane…it also States that in the drivers hand book….but I’m thinking a few havnt read it judging by the way they “drive”

Ya know there are some really shitty drivers when CANADA’S WORST DRIVERSis going on to their 13 season

The issue isn’t people who use the left lane to pass and move back over, no matter what the speed. It’s people who camp out at exactly 100 in the left lane when they are not actively passing anyone because they feel they have a right to drive in that lane as long as they are at the limit and because they get some sick pleasure out of preventing anyone from going over the speed limit. Even if I’m travelling over the limit I always move to the right lane when I complete a passing maneuver because that is how driving freaking works!!

  16. There is one condition to passing. Don’t cut in front of someone who is already passing causing them to brake for you. You can wait til it is safe to do so.

if I’m correct bc is making it against the law the stay in the left lane unless you are passing… it’s not rocket science .. drive.. pass… get back in the right lane…

  18. Actually, there are some fairly concrete laws that forbid a driver from speeding no matter what lane they’re in…

  20. UMMmmmm have you ever seen a sign that says “SLOWER TRAFFIC STAY RIGHT”?

  21. Chesker Chesker says:

While what you say is true, if you pull out to pass someone and the person behind you already in that lane has to put on their brakes, then you are still in the wrong. They are established in that lane at a certain speed, if you are not established in that lane, and cause them to adjust more than an insignificant amount to something you have done, you are in the wrong.

I ride the left lane on the henday all the time. Too much on and off traffic. Staying in the left lane makes merging on and off an easier task for those. Stay left and stay out of the way. As long as you’re doing the limit who cares. Too many entitled ❄️ who think it’s their god given right to speed on the passing lane.

I’m sorry. But people who camo in the left lane piss me off like no other. If i want to speed and risk a ticket, that’s my problem. I will ride your ass and make you move over. You can’t tell people they aren’t allowed to speed. Lol. And you shouldn’t block them if they want to go faster then you.
