Kindness Shown

On Wednesday morning I was at Winners at Mayfield Common and as I was walking in my foot got stuck in a pothole in the parking lot and down I went. I scraped my knee and wrist but my ankle took the brunt of the fall and there I lay on the ground unable to get up.

I had a lovely lady offer me help right away offering to call 911/an ambulance. I declined the offer but she did go back into the store to get a manager. As I lay there trying to pick myself up, two other ladies came right over to me and offered help.

They were so kind and helped lift me up and get me to my vehicle. The assistant manager of the store came out and was also very helpful and kind. I was able to get to see my Dr and my ankle is fractured. I didn’t get the names of the three amazing angels who were kind enough to stop and help me so I hope somehow this gets to them.

ANOTHER GREAT POST:  Update from the Shy Girl who's too Afraid to say Hi.

Thank you ladies for showing me that kindness and humanity still is ever present in a sometimes chaotic world. I’ll never forget your kindness and once I’m healed up I will most definitely pay it forward in your honour. Bless you all ❤️

Just so you know, it’s not the fault of the store in front of the pothole. Hire a personal injury lawyer. They take their cut out of your settlement and they will go after the owner’s of the mall complex cuz it’s their responsibility to fix the roads in the parking lot. Bone fractures = big $$$. Why should you suffer without compensation? Take care of yourself!

The OP was simply trying to thank people. Why must you make it about suing and money? .

Bobby Sam, cuz some people don’t know their rights and she could have serious long term implications from someone else’s negligence and she could suffer the rest of her life. Why shouldn’t she know how she can take care of herself? Why is it so upsetting to you that she knows this? Were you sued for negligence? Did I strike a nerve?!!

This country is great isn’t it?!?! You know a country is top notch when you can set your alarm one morning. Get in a line and fill out some paperwork and get free money and never have to set your alarm again and sleep in every day!!!!!! Wooooo!!!! I can’t wait to go around the city looking for ways to get free money. There has to be a hole in the ground somewhere. Just think… if we all did it none of us would have to work!!! I am willing to bet you are unemployed.. you are aren’t you!!

James Musat, the OP’s injury isn’t a joke. Don’t be an ass. This “accident” was the result of the mall owner’s negligence and it could affect the OP’s well being quite dramatically. If her ankle doesn’t heal properly, and time will certainly tell, then every single step she takes will be hell for her. Do you honestly think she should just write that off as her tough luck?

    • Shawna Perez : I happen to agree with you.

    • Accidents do happen. No one’s fault. Please let’s not be like the Americans and sue, sue, sue!

Coral Ginger MacDonald, I can’t believe the sheer number of morons who think a person should just walk away from being hurt through someone else’s fault!!!

Viviane Daniels, so the OP should live uncompensated with chronic pain, pain, pain? What a great idea!!! Yes, some accidents do happen but most could have been prevented, like this situation. I hope the OP has the common sense to take my advice and take care of herself.

Shawna Perez No, luckily I have never been sued. That would be a terrible thing but I guess that’s why we should have liability insurance. I really can’t fathom why you are now attacking me. I was simply observing that the OP was expressing her gratitude and did not ask for her “rights” to be explained to her.

Bobby Sam, and why do you think it was your place to “attack” me for explaining to the OP some legal options she has? If you think about it, you are being a hypocrite.

Shawna Perez Fuck you. Who are you to call anybody a moron. You are a fucking good for nothing. If a person is retarded enough to walk into a hole that is obviously big enough to see if its big enough for a foot to fit in then that person should not be in public and definitely shouldn’t be compensated for being stupid.. They should be locked in a room with padded walls wearing a helmet and water wings…

    • Shawna Perez Shawna Perez says:

James Musat, maybe the OP is elderly or maybe the pot hole was not visible due to being covered up with leaves? Regardless, she fell into a pot hole that has likely been there a long time. They don’t get that big to fit a foot overnight. Let’s focus on you though. Wow, you appear to have some anger issues and clearly lack compassion for people. Perhaps it is you who should be locked in a room, away from people because you have appeared to have lost your way. Were you in a life changing accident and you got the short end of the stick? If so, that’s unfortunate but please don’t take it out on those who don’t need to suffer like that. Be loving and if you can’t do that, keep to yourself.

    • Shawna Perez I sure did when back surgery resulted in a permanent spinal cord injury. Had the best neurosurgeon possible. I did not blame him – seeing the anguish he went through was enough.

In ’97 had a near fatal MVA on Baseline and Highway 21. RCMP said it was truly an accident and no tickets or charges. Extensive surgery and almost a year of rehab. Accidents are just that.

    • Shawna Perez Shawna Perez says:

Viviane Daniels, OMG, you had a permanent spinal injury and you didn’t sue? What a huge mistake! Just reading that makes me cry a little bit. You sold yourself short. I am honestly shocked to read that you think seeing how upset the driver who caused your injury was payment enough. Please do not EVER do that to yourself again!

    • Cant believe how childish you all are being, yes she should look into being looked after, big hole or small it doesnt matter, she fell, got hurt, company didnt do their job to have holes fixed, company should pay for her pain and suffering, how hard is that to see lmao some peoples kids

      [0]
    • Shawna Perez it was the neurosurgeon, not the driver in ’97. I abhor the mentality that someone has to pay for anything that affects us! After living in the US for 11 years, it was wonderful coming back to Canada where Canadians are not after a fast buck.

The OP wanted to express her gratitude to all who helped her.

    • Shawna Perez Shawna Perez says:

Viviane Daniels, do you honestly think that not being compensated for your permanent back injury means that you can proudly classify yourself as someone who’s not “out for a fast buck”? Broken bones and neurological issues aren’t healed with band aids. Girl, it’s time to see things differently. Can’t you see you are worth so much more and it’s not about money. It’s about accountability and being in permanent pain absolutely gives you the right to be able to pay for a better quality of life to take care of yourself. My prayers are with you.

Maja Black, funny, that’s how I think about people like you who feel the need to write an angry reply to my honest advice to the OP. She may not know her rights. What’s it to you that finds out this way? Better she finds out now so she can take care of herself. Don’t you want her to be ok?

  7. I agree with Shawna look into it, years ago when the Oilers made the playoffs I was on white ave there was a huge pot hole in the cross walk I was walking and fell on the pot hole and hurt my ankle, knees was bleeding. No one looks at there feet when they walk I was trampled by the parade of people. To this day I have an ankle problem can no longer run etc. But there were apparently numerous other people this happened to they were paid out money from the city, they fixed the pot hole after the first complaint. I was to late to get anything as by the time I looked into my limitations were over. I’ve broke that ankle/ foot again and now it’s fucked for life and suffer pain in it every day. You should be compensated as you have no idea the long term effects of this. It’s the city/ parking lot owner etc responsibility to protect the people that use it. They have maintenance workers and property managers for a reason to check these things daily. It’s no different then someone hurting them self on your property because of snow and ice or fender benders etc.

    • I disagree. Watch where you step. It’s your responsibility. If you don’t see a pothole on the path in front of you, you are likely the kind of person who will also step into traffic without looking. People just love to shift their responsibility onto someone else when their inattentiveness injures them.

    • Jared Kenwell so at 12,1,2, 3 in the morning while there was 50000 people on white ave I’m crossing the road in a marked cross walk there is a foot or so sink whole in the road in the marked cross walk I am suppose to know it’s there ok Most people when walking look straight in front of them not down and there feet.

  8. You should report it to the company that manages Mayfield common to prevent another injury.
