Looking For Smash Cake Recommendations

I want to do a small smash cake for my daughters first birthday, I was thinking 3 layers and either 4″ or 6″.

Can someone recommend a baker and let me know their prices please? I’ve been quoted as high as $60… I’ve also heard horror stories of the cakes tasting horrible and I want to get this right.

Thank you in advance for helping this confused parent out!

We stopped using her because the cakes got sloppy. In the end she didn’t pay attention to detail like she had in the past for several of the cakes we had ordered. I wouldn’t recommend her

  4. My recommendation is “Don’t do it”. Instead spend $10 on cupcakes and put the other $50 in a savings plan.. food waste is repulsive and spending $60 on a cake for a kid to smash when other people cannot even afford breakfast…

  5. If it’s a first birthday, why spend the money when Betty Crocker boxed mixes are a Dollarama item? This baby doesn’t care if you buy a $60 professionally made cake. Especially to have something to smash?

    • Some people do a first birthday photo shoot and the pics are super cute of the baby smashing the cake or some people just want one for the party so they don’t smash the actual birthday cake that everyone gets a slice of!

  14. I would est $60 based on what you are asking.
If its too costly then do a simple boxed cake decorate simply and relax and enjoy the celebration.

  17. bake a cake yourself, it is just going to get smashed anyway, you don`t need to go all extravagant for it. This whole cake smash thing came about after my kids were past that age, the whole thing is bizarre to me, to pay a bunch of money to literally garbage a cake for no better reason than photos. But then I am of the type that can not fathom the wasting of perfectly good food for no reason.

But if this is important to you then make it even more personal and bake the cake yourself.

  26. Get two boxes of cake mix from dollarama, make them and put them in two separate round pans, let them cool. Then make icing out of butter, vanilla extract, icing sugar and a tiny bit of milk (if you want) mix it up, add a drop of pink icing color, mix it then spread it carefully over the cooled cake.
