“Offended” By Us Celebrating Christmas
Let me start off by saying: my family is Muslim, but I am not. My parents immigrated here over 40 years ago, and never used welfare or ANY government assistance, always pay their taxes, and still work. We love this country and its people, and we are proud Canadians! So dont bother with the “go back to your country” crap.
We were in line waiting for our turn for pictures with Santa, when a man behind us said “why are you here? Let us go before you.” I turned and said “excuse me? Are you talking to us?” He said “yeah, who else would I be talking to? You’re Muslim. You dont celebrate Christmas” and pointed at my mother’s hijab (head scarf that covers only the hair and neck). I replied telling him we do celebrate, and it’s not his business.
He stayed quiet for maybe 2 minutes, before saying “I’m offended. Celebrate your own religious shit and stop trying to take over everything. Stupid immigrants” I couldn’t believe my ears. Seriously?? There are many Muslims, and people from many different religions who celebrate Christmas. How is this “offensive” to anyone? Even some people who are agnostic or atheist celebrate it. Get real.
My family loves Canadian holidays; we celebrate them all. They do not try to “change” or complain about any traditions or customs. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
PS. Everyone has ancestors or parents and such that immigrated here. So before you call someone an immigrant, you might want to look at your background. We are just as CANADIAN as you are.
Thanks for reading and MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!
