If you knew and actual fact checked before coming here, you’d know that dropping smoking does more harm than good because like the mom, the body needs that nicotine. Please do some research before coming into a public forum, hiding behind a keyboard. You don’t think the mom feels bad as it is without your cunty, holier-than-thou attitude? Get that stick out of your ass.

Sincerely a non-smoking parent and certified addictions worker.

    • That’s actually a myth. I WAS a smoker for both of my pregnancies. My OB was begging me to quit and said that my body would adjust within 3 days. Frankly, i think that that is an excuse used to justify an addiction.

      [0]
    • Then its a myth that some doctors believe as fact.

    • Then its a myth that some doctors believe as fact.

      [0]
    • That’s actually a load of crap.

      [0]
    • That’s a myth… perhaps emotionally stressful due to addiction but it’s more harmful to the baby to continue smoking. Maybe not cold turkey as others had mentioned but in the long run it’s better for the baby to quit. It absolutely does not affect the baby when you quit, there’s no evidence of that. There is evidence that smoking while pregnant reduces oxygen to the fetus, results in lower birth weights and risks of complications , triple the risk of sids, higher rates of asthma etc etc.

I don’t believe it’s a myth, I was pregnant 31 years ago and was told to cut back but not to quit, my daughter-in-law was pregnant last year and told to cut back but not to quit!

    • Great response. ❤️

      [0]
    • My SIL was told to cut back as well. Not quit smoking.

      [0]
    • It’s a myth. You need to get a new certificate if you believe that

      [0]
    • How anyone can think that depriving a foetus of oxygen is better than having anxiety for a few days is beyond me. There are photos of the foetus in utero recoiling and spasming every time the mother takes a drag off of her cigarette.

I was a Smoker for 22 years. I made up a lot of excuses to justify my addiction. I’m sure I used this one as well.

The top is an image of a baby exposed to smoking(taken while the mother has a drag) bottom is not, researchers believe the recoiling and clawing of the face has to do with the affect on the central nervous system. I know quitting is hard but it is a myth that it’s “dangerous to quit” it doesn’t affect the fetus with withdrawls; it’s not like opioid or amphetamines.

      [0]
    • first pregnancy….didnt quit….gained 19 lbs….and had issues…2nd baby I quit cold turkey healthy as can be and gained 60pds….bunch of crap..of.course it affects the baby!!!!!

      [0]
    • wow look at all the medical degrees here. glad to see you all completed your doctorate. I personally went with what my DR said to do. which was cut back. i was high risk to begin with (not related to smoking) and was not supposed to be able to get pregnant. and surprise 13 years after i was told i would never have more children boom. i did as i was told and cut back. ita not just address stress to baby when quitting but also to mom. and added stress can cause many many issues. oh and i did get a 2nd opinion from another dr. so no it is not a myth.

      [0]
    • So does one just cut back on alcohol?

      [0]
    • A doctor does first ask you to quit but if it’s too stressful for the person to completely quit the doctor will say to cut back because it’s the stress that will harm the baby not the nicotine withdrawal. That’s a fact folks.

      [0]
    • Theresa Daniel , I was about to say the same thing. The stress your body goes through when you quit can do harm to a fetus. Everyone handles these things differently,
Some end up quitting with ease while others don’t… if you can ease yourself off cigarettes in a reasonable time to benefit both your health and the babies.. I’m all for it. If you can quit cold turkey to benefit both yours and babies health, I’m all for that as well! You just keep doing you, follow your doctors advice, get second opinions if you feel uneasy about something. But I have to agree with the majority of people here… go up to her and try and help. Talk to her rather than making her feel like a mess when she probably already does.

  18. I don’t smoke but the recommended prenatal pills hurt my stomach so much and my doctor told me to stop them.
Everybody is different and what goes for someone might not go for you.
In the end it’s up to you and your doctor on what’s the best.

    [0]
  19. I always cringe when I see pregnant women smoking too. But…if she’s pregnant to the point where it’s obvious to others, then 1) She’s been to a doctor, who’s aware she smokes and 2) The doctor would have advised her on what she should or shouldn’t do to her body in terms of what may harm a fetus. You need to trust that if she cares about her unborn child, she’s listening to what the professional says. However if she’s not listening to her doctor, then she certainly won’t be open to advice from anonymous strangers.

I agree on some level it’s not the op’s business, the health and welfare of our children also is to some level a communities business. ..is the way the op is going about things going to change this situation or help it.. no.. but it is a concern that hopefully can be slowly addressed.

  61. Gave up when I knew I wanted to get pregnant. It is a shockingly bad thing though to do to your baby. It was hard to give up but better that then forcing a growing baby to smoke with me.

  62. To the person who can’t mind their own business: Mind your business.

  63. At the end of the day when you light up a cigarette you are literally forcing your child to smoke period. You would never, never, never (I would hope) give that same child a cigarette as a baby or young child but yet you do when you smoke while pregnant. Dress it up all you like it is child abuse. Sorry but it is. It is putting your needs before those of your developing child. Now justify what part of that is a good thing?

    [0]
    • Smoking is not child abuse. That’s like saying to a vegetarian eating meat is child abuse. Or not eating or drinking something can harm a baby. Really At the end of the day it’s not your decision. This statement on fb is doing more harm then good stressing this mom out is not helping anyone right now and telling her she is abusing her unborn child probably makes her feel really bad. How do any of us even know she is smoking I for one have not seen this or even know her but I hope she is a wonderful mom and want to tell her congrats on her new life she is bring into this world.

      [0]
    • Well actually Alison smoking, drinking and drug abuse to yourself IS abuse against an unborn child. All the above and other ‘problems’ too have been constantly rammed down our throats seemingly forever, that these things in excess DO damage you and others anywhere near you. The “Lady” (and I use the word loosely below Renee Huff!) as either a mother or maybe perhaps a future mother WHY would you say that?? and your language is atrocious and so unnecessary.

      [0]
    • Wow!! The baby ain’t even breathing….. it gets filtered by the placenta and goes to the babies blood….. not their lungs lmfao…. no the baby isn’t smoking….. the mom is!
