Pro Bono family lawyer?

I was wondering of anyone knows if there is really a such thing.

I make to much to qualify for legal aide, and SLS is on their break.

I am a low income single mother to three and my oldest father is taking me back to court after 13 years for a child support variation and to get his arrears abolished.

ANOTHER GREAT POST:  Looking for Remembrance Day Events in or Near Edmonton

Normally I could do this on my own ( I took the father of my youngest two to court myself) but this is a little trickier for me.

Any advise would be great. Thanks!

I had great chuckles at all the comments here. I used to think all the men out there were &&&holes and the poor single women were “stepped on, lied to, cheated on, and treated like dirt” thanks to Sandy Posey. Guess what…it isn’t so. Many women are users, and use the kids to break the men. Maybe the father got sick of fighting to see the kids, paying his dues, and having his kids alienated. There are two sides to a story and I think old Ben is just poking a little fun at everyone.

You ladies are getting upset over nothing, Ben is an obvious troll, actually a pretty funny one if you read his comments from that perspective.

  4. I’m not sure you really need anything special here. It’ll be him who has to come up with all the documentation for a variation, you basically just show up?

  5. When you get to court there will be an advisory lawyer who can represent you. You need to show up early to talk to them and they will either go into the courtroom on your behalf or tell you what you need to say. There’s no fee for this.

  6. A variation only means an adjustment based on what he earns. And it’s not likely that he will have his arrears erased unless you give permission or he can prove that he had the child during the time he’s saying he wants erased.

  11. you can contact the Family Resolution Centre in the Brownlee Building, and they will help you with form and whatnot. If your court date is before you can get an appt with the centre, show up in court and get it postponed and say that you are in search of legal representation and haven’t found a family lawyer to represent you yet.

  14. Use family justice services at the John. E. Brownlee building. You only pay filing fees because you’re considered self represented but they run you through the whole process and go to court with you.

  15. Hahaha single mother of THREE? Woooow you really aren’t a fast learner, are you? The first two didn’t clue you in ? Anyway babe, you sound like you need money, and fast. I would be willing to hire you in as a “summer temp”. Lots of little “house keeping” duties around my office that will keep you pretty busy. Pay is fair. DM me some pics (RECENT pics, like this morning) and maybe we can work something out.

  26. I don’t understand how you can be low income.. but make too much for legal aide? Honestly lawyers are the only winners in lawsuits.

    • If your low income and make $1.00 over the limit your denied, simple as that, I and my husband are low income, he’s on oxygen, this year we tried doing the free online tax through H & R, our income was $130.00 over the max allowed, we get rent subsidy and that’s what brought us over budget

Go to family court at the brownlee building. They are a great help. If not call lawyer referral service at 1800-661-1095 ,press star* immediately after they start to speak tell the operator family law and what city. They will give the name of three lawyers. You at least get three opinions

  29. In family court most legal aids won’t help anyway unless domestic violence happened. And you can defend yourself in family court. Best of luck
