A Rant Toward the Person that Sent in the Negative Review About the Stollery Hospital Staff

To the person that had the negative review about the Stollery Hospital. I have had my daughter in and out of the hospital since birth. She has been in the NICU, intensive care and right now she is in the regular ward for the last week and a half. She just turned 22 months old.

I have had no problems at all. She has the best pediatrician and the nurses are so great and supportive.

ANOTHER GREAT POST:  Concern About Doctors and Nurses Not Following Protocol at the Stollery Hospital

So I do not know what she is talking about. I would give the Stollery the best positive review and I am sure others would agree. Do not put the hard working caring nurses and doctors down for their dedication. They even decorated my daughter’s crib when she was in there for her 1st b-day.

I think it depends on your experience and the outcome. If you know someone who ended up passing away, you could be angry from grief and taking it out on the hospital…

  3. Agreed! We are so lucky to have a children’s hospital in our city! I wouldn’t take my kids anywhere else!

  5. While I agree about the Stollery and am so thankful I live in Edmonton with my kiddies, I totally understand about seeing staff not follow protocol with hand washing, masks etc. As soon as you have experience with a staff member not doing one of these life saving measures, you notice it a lot more!!! I became very vocal once my Mama was in the hospital and it was my responsibility to advocate for her when she couldn’t.

  6. My son was in there when.he was 2 yrs old he had been to his pediatrician numerous times and we’re told he was just fussy, after bringing him to the emergency at the Stollery he was diagnosed with Systemic Juvenile Rhumetoid Arthritis. The staff were wonderful and caring the whole time he was there. Happy to say now, at 17 he is healthy and active in football, hockey and baseball.
Kudos to The Stollery and all the good work they accomplish

  7. Some staff are wonderful and some staff aren’t. It’s the same at every hospital one goes to. I love the stollery and every nurse/doctor I’ve had for my kids has been nothing but amazing ^.^ experiences will vary, just hope one can learn to not class everyone as a bad nurse/doctor because of one persons mistake… Not all are the same 🙂

  8. Have always had great care there. My daughter repeatedly had strep throat, diagnosed 7 times in 2013, 11 in 2014. Clinical doctors were not documenting or taking appropriate measures to get her looked at and treated properly through an ENT. Twice diagnosed at Stollery and she was admitted, looked at by ENT, and now booked for surgery next week. Every hospital has its flaws, Stollery is no different. I could say a few Nasty things about the Alex and Mis, and I’m sure there would be ppl disagreeing with me too.

  9. I’ve had good and bad experiences at the Grey Nuns… Worst was when I was miscarrying right in emergency waiting room :/ so much pain that no one would do anything about. I know it’s all based on worst cases first, but even something to help manage the pain while I was miscarrying would have been enough. But I also had two healthy births there and the nurses were absolutely amazing ladies 🙂 same place with two entirely different experiences. I’m set to have my third child at the Royal Alex, so I’m excited to see how they are there. Having complications currently and have been to their L&D already before being ordered bed rest and they were very awesome and supportive!

  11. I’ve never heard anything bad about the stollery this surprises me, I’ve had friends that have had kids in and out of there and no issues! As far as I’m concerned it’s the best children’s hospital in Alberta!!

All it takes is one bad experience when a person really needs good medical care the most for a person to develop a negative opinion of a medical center forever. Sad but true.

  13. The Stollery Hospital is one of many amazing hospitals in Edmonton. The staff go above and beyond for patients and families. I will defend and support them until the day I die.

Every situation is different. Maybe this person had a bad experience- which is always so unfortunate. It’s stressful as it is to have a sick child and then feeling like those taking care of your what you love most in the world, aren’t listening to you makes matters worse. I’m sorry you had a bad experience. I had a friend who had a premature baby that was being taken care of at the Stollery. Lots of errors were made with her baby girl. For our family, we have only ever had one horrible experience with a female doctor at the Stollery emergency. All the rest of the times the doctors have been wonderful. One doctor even gave me his cell in case my daughter became worse through the night. I’m so grateful for their dedication. If you ever encounter a problem you can always write to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Best of luck.

  16. It does depend on the experience and outcome. Instead of monitoring who was washing their hands, I was worried about whether or not my daughter was going to stay alive. AND SHE DID ! Thanks to that hospital.

    • So you wouldn’t have cared if someone didn’t wash their hands and gave your child some sort of infection. There are many nasty things in the hospital that can kill especially if that person is already sick. One more bug can be the difference between recovery or not. There is a reason your supposed to wash up. Think SARS, measles, H1N1, rubella, or whooping cough. That list goes on.

It’s one of the best children’s hospitals in the world. Even the best places can have mistakes we are human, if I had children and they needed help, the stollery would be the first place I go

I’m sure anywhere can have bad moments/ staff (although hopefully little at a place like the stollery) but I know my experience with tem has been positive other than wait times and tired front desk workers being abrupt but i can live with that considering the care we get from there.
