Staples non 137 Ave you guys rock!

Back to school shopping. I hate it. Backpacks and clothes, I don’t mind. It’s the crowds and the stores running out of things (I kid you not Walmart ran out of pencils one year. Yes, pencils) and the cost. I can’t stand it. In past years I have opted to have my child’s school supplies purchased through the tools for school or other programs the school offers. Then at the end of the year, unused supplies get sent home so I’d acquired a lot of unused supplies so I didn’t want to go that route and spend for a whole kit wen we only needed about half.

So I mentally prepared myself for shopping in basically a zoo for supplies but I got to the Staples on 137 Ave and was quite impressed with it! The store was very clean, and the staff very helpful. Especially Jorge… He helped me find things, showed me which would get more bang for my buck and then when they didn’t have an item out, he went to check their inventory and upon learning that their store had none, he came back and said “I did call a couple other stores for you” and then he proceeded to tell me exactly what it would look like and which stores had it.

ANOTHER GREAT POST:  Shoutout to the Anthony Henday Construction Workers

It was actually an awesome shopping experience where I wasn’t overwhelmed or bitchy so big thanks to Staples!

My kids school does a pre order. For like $70 you get all your supplies except a backpack and lunch kit and a small percentage goes back to the school for fundraising

Very impressed that you started shopping in July, yes Staples is great, what was even better when my son was young my work would let me order online, use the company discount and do payroll deduction for the cost, all being delivered to the office. I do not think they knew how much that helped me out!

  10. YAAAY! Both my kid’s schools are supplying ALL the school supplies this year! No cost to the parent (feels weird!) First time ever in my life I’m experiencing this! Wish all schools would jump on this bandwagon (God knows we pay enough taxes!)

    • I’m of 2 minds on this. It is nice to have everyone have the same supplies and be uniform. No one is left out, everything is easier to organize. However they’re not pumping more funding into schools to fund this and the money is coming from somewhere and unfortunately that means things like EA time is getting cut and less students are getting assistance they need or they are getting less time with an EA. So students are missing out in the name of school supplies.

    • It depends where the money came from. It’s possible that the PAC had extra money that needed to be spent, maybe they fundraised the money, or a partnership with a store got them a great discount.
Plus, at the end of the school year if there is a surplus, it cannot be carried over to the next year so it’s better that it’s spent then the money going back to the school board. Students are not missing out over school supplies
